We work actively with the food retail industry's plastic target, which means that all of ICA's own packaging will be recyclable by 2025. By 2030, plastic packaging will also be made from recycled plastic or renewable resources. Our packaging development takes place in close dialog and cooperation with both suppliers and industry colleagues to find new ways forward together.
In parallel with our shared plastic goal, a need has emerged for a more holistic approach to what constitutes a sustainable packaging. That is why we at ICA Sweden have developed a packaging strategy (in Swedish). This guide aims to provide an overall picture of how we work with packaging development in both the short and long term – for a better tomorrow.
A large part of ICA’s own-brand range comes in plastic packaging, and we are working to ensure that as many of these as possible are designed for recycling. This is not an easy task, and to support our suppliers we held a plastic training session in March 2024 to help them choose the right packaging materials more easily. If you missed the training session, you can watch the webinar here. The training materials are also available in PDF format here.
